Trimming MP4 without re-encoding

I'm using 2.7.6 in windows 64 and following the video at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o9F9viAshNo

- The MP4 video is open and I've marked start and end points.

- I've selected MP4Muxer as the video suggests

- When I try to save, I get an error "only MP4Video ... supported

I don't see MP4Video as an option in the Output Format dropdown

I've looked at https://avidemux.org/smif/index.php?topic=17301.0 but the suggestions there seem to be for mpg rather than mp4.

What settings should I use for trimming MP4 without any recoding?

Please update to the latest nightly build --> https://avidemux.org/nightly/win64/

While the currently latest one from Jan 4 is missing a few improvements added on Jan 5, the next one will include them, of course.

The error message suggests that the video codec is incompatible with MP4 container. If you post the textual output of the program "MediaInfo" for the file you try to edit in copy mode, I could tell you whether it will work with the nightly or not. Instead of MediaInfo, you could start with posting the information Avidemux provides about that file (Alt+Enter --> Copy to clipboard). This information is very incomplete, but may be sufficient.

I downloaded the Jan 4 version, but the result was the same.

I also noticed the MP4v2 Muxer. Attempting to save with it gave Error: cannot open

Had to zip the MediaInfo -- posted as inline text, forum poster claimed it was spam

This is a legacy, deprecated muxer. Please use libavformat-based MP4 and MOV muxers.

CleanTalk, the external antispam service, is very prone to false positives. Nothing can be done about it, unfortunately.

I cannot rule out that AVI muxer as the only one might accept it, but the result will be almost for sure broken. No other real (non-dummy, non-raw) muxer will accept these streams. You will need to re-encode both video and audio.

I ran into the same snag when I was trying to trim some MP4 videos for a family project. It's frustrating when the software just doesn't seem to have the option you need. For me, it turned out that my software didn't support direct MP4 editing without re-encoding, which was a bummer.

After a bit of trial and error, I realized I needed to switch to a different program. I ended up checking out some alternatives on https://www.movavi.com/learning-portal/imovie-alternatives.html. They had a list of different video editing tools, and I found one that made trimming MP4s super easy, without all the re-encoding hassle.

It's interesting that at movavi.com the editor/reviewers top recommendation for a video editor is the movavi video editor. His top recommendation for a phone app is the movavi app. And his top recommendation for online editing is movavi fastreel.
He must be relieved they all came out on top in his review.  ;D  ;D  ;D
